Lockwood Academy coaches juniors of all ages and abilities at Potters Resorts Five Lakes in Essex, from a child's very first swing to competitive junior golf. Positive, structured and led by coaches with experience at every level of the game.
Every stage
Coaching that meets your child where they are
Juniors develop at very different rates. We coach the golfer in front of us, not an age group.
First swings
For children new to golf. Sessions are fun, active and simple, building the basic skills of hitting, chipping and putting while learning how to behave safely on a range and course.
Developing golfers
For juniors who have the basics and want to improve. We build a rounded game: full swing, short game and putting, with an introduction to playing on the course and getting a first handicap.
Competitive juniors
For juniors playing club, county or national junior golf. Structured coaching with a practice plan, course management and the preparation skills that help young players perform when it counts.

Saturday morning junior sessions
Junior group coaching runs every Saturday morning at Potters Resorts Five Lakes, led by Lead Junior Coach Alex Milne. Three sessions, each organised for a different ability group, so your child learns alongside juniors at a similar stage of their golf.

Each session is organised for a different ability group. When you get in touch, tell us a little about your child's experience and we will recommend the group that fits them best.
Individual coaching for golfers under 16 is £50 per hour. Get in touch for details of the Saturday group sessions.

Young golfers learn fastest by developing skills and athleticism, not by copying positions. We keep technical information minimal and purposeful.

We tell you what your child is working on and how you can support practice at home or at your club, without turning you into a swing coach.

Lead Junior Coach
Junior coaching led by Alex Milne
Alex Milne is the Assistant Professional at Lockwood Academy and the academy's Lead Junior Coach. Having completed his PGA degree in 2025, Alex has developed a busy and growing coaching diary, working with golfers across a range of ages and abilities.
He leads our junior coaching alongside Head Professional Craig Lockwood, keeping sessions positive and skill-first so young golfers leave enjoying the game and knowing what to work on next.
For parents
What to expect
Getting started is simple. Call or email us with your child's age, any experience they have and what they enjoy about golf so far. We will recommend the best starting point, whether that is an individual session or joining a group, and let you know what to bring.
Juniors do not need their own clubs to begin. Sessions take place on the practice facilities at Five Lakes, with parking and refreshments on site, and we ask that a parent or guardian stays on site for younger children.
Families travel to us from Maldon, Chelmsford, Colchester, Witham, Braintree, Tiptree and across Essex.
