Club repairs at Lockwood Academy are mainly carried out by Alex Milne, Assistant Professional at the academy and its Lead Junior Coach. Working alongside Head Professional Craig Lockwood at Potters Resorts Five Lakes, Alex handles re-gripping, re-shafting and shaft replacement, and general club repairs for golfers at Five Lakes and across Essex.

Re-gripping

Worn, shiny or slippery grips replaced with key brands kept in stock.

Grips are the only part of the club you touch, and they wear out long before they fall apart. A shiny surface, a grip that twists, or one that simply feels hard and slick is quietly costing you control — and making you grip tighter than you should.

Alex re-grips clubs at the academy and keeps key grip brands in stock, including Golf Pride, Lamkin and SuperStroke, so most re-grips can be done without waiting for parts to be ordered.

Re-shafting and shaft replacement

Broken or unsuitable shafts replaced properly, from a single rescue club to a full set.

A snapped shaft, a crack near the hosel, or a club that simply never felt right can all be solved with a replacement shaft rather than a new club.

Alex carries out re-shafting and shaft replacement work at the academy. Get in touch with the club and the problem, and we will confirm what is possible before any work is done.

General club repairs

Loose heads, damaged ferrules and other everyday repair work on your clubs.

Clubs take a lot of punishment: loose heads, rattles, damaged ferrules and general wear all need attention before they turn into a club that lets you down mid-round.

If something on a club does not look, sound or feel right, bring it in or get in touch and Alex will take a look and advise on the repair.

When to act

Signs your clubs need attention

Most club problems announce themselves quietly first. These are the ones worth acting on.

Your grips look shiny or feel slick

A grip's surface does the holding for you. Once it turns shiny, hard or smooth, your hands take over — and gripping tighter through the swing is one of the quietest ways to lose clubhead speed and face control.

The grip twists or moves

Any movement between your hands and the club is a problem. A grip that twists, or feels loose at the top end, needs replacing before it costs you a shot — or worse, a club.

A shaft is broken, cracked or rattling

A snapped shaft, a visible crack near the hosel, or a rattle inside the club all need attention. In many cases a shaft replacement saves the club rather than forcing a full replacement.

Something just feels off

Loose heads, damaged ferrules and general wear show up as a club that sounds or feels different. If a club you trust suddenly doesn't feel right, it is worth having it looked at.
